How to block unknown or private callers on an iPhone

Since they were invented, maybe one of the most attractive features of a cell phone has been the ability of identifying the person who’s calling us before answering the call.

In other words, being able to see the origin of the call. This way, we can decide whether we want to answer or not.

However, with the technological advancements in cell phones that bring us innovative functionalities and tools, they seem to also make our lives more complicated.

For instance, there’s the case of being able to hide your number in some devices so that it doesn’t appear on the screen of the receiver of the call. This is cool as long as we are the ones who want to remain hidden so that other people don’t know who’s calling them.

But… what happens when unknown or hidden numbers make calls to our cell phones? It is not very pleasant, is it?

What’s bothersome about receiving this kind of calls is that they are generally made to give you offers, make pranks, or even scam you. This makes us feel annoyed and worried.

Thanks to the configuration on the iPhone’s operating system, you can block incoming calls and messages from numbers that are not recorded on our phone’s contact list. Among its functionalities, iOS allows you to make this action. The way in which this can be done is very simple. You just need to follow these steps:

Step 1

Enter to the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2

Click on the option Do not disturb.

Step 3

Select the option Manual by sliding the button towards the right so that it gets activated.

On the Manual option, you need to make a simple configuration process to be able to restrict calls from unknown numbers. First, you need to click the option “Allow calls from,” and then you will have to press “All contacts.” This will allow you to only receive calls from phone numbers that are registered on your contact list.

If, at any moment, you want to put even more restrictions to your incoming calls, you can choose the option “Favorites.” In this case, the only incoming calls that you’ll receive is from contacts that you have marked as favorites on your contacts list. Simple, no? This is a cool option if you go on vacation or during your free weekends.

It is important that you remember that, as long as you keep the “Do not disturb” mode activated, this will make your iPhone to be completely silent. However, you can configure it so that it will only remain silent while you are not using your phone (that is, while it is locked,) or, indeed, to keep it silent at all times.

What happens if I have “Do not disturb” mode activated on my iPhone?

While you have “Do not disturb” mode activated on your iPhone, and after configuring it as we previously told you, not only your incoming calls from unknown numbers will be blocked, but also notifications from emails, social network apps, messages, etc., will stop appearing on your phone.

Logically, you need to keep in mind that you will NOT receive calls from phone numbers that are not stored on your contacts list, so that, if you were expecting a call for a job interview, an appointment, or any other important call, they will not be able to contact you.

However, iOS always has alternative solutions for everything. In the case that you were expecting any important call or that, suddenly, someone tries to urgently locate you through another number for any reason, you can activate the option “Repeated calls.”

How does the “Repeated calls” option works?

If you get called repeatedly through the same unknown number within a three-minute time period, your iPhone will allow the call so that you’ll be able to answer it.

This functionality can also be activated from the Do not disturb mode, and by entering into Manual. There, find the “Repeated calls” option, and slide the button to the right to activate it.

Another interesting fact that you should know about the “Do not disturb” mode and the settings’ customization is that you could even configure the period of time that you want your phone to remain like that.

For instance, during the day, you can adjust your phone on “Do not disturb” mode from 7:00 in the morning until five in the afternoon so that you do not receive unknown calls during that period of time. For that, you should activate the option “Scheduled” by sliding the button to the right, and then choosing when to start and when to end that mode.

With this simple tips, you can avoid receiving unknown calls on your iPhone or from any hidden number.
